Why Exact Age Matters for Brigance Cutoff Scores
The Early Childhood Screens III compare a child's score against a cutoff for their age band. If the calculated age is wrong, the score is compared against the wrong cutoff — which can flag a typically developing child for referral, or miss a child who needs follow-up.
This Brigance age calculator uses the ASHA 30-day borrowing method: when the birth day is larger than the screening day, one month is borrowed and treated as exactly 30 days. That is the same convention used across standardized assessment scoring, so the result is consistent with other tools in your protocol.
